The Lighthouse of the Island of Bocca was built in 1887, bearing witness to the first stable maritime connection between the island and the peninsula in 1920. The decision was made to position it on the island of the same name “at the entrance” to the port of Olbia. In 1967, it was decided to electrify the light’s power supply and the structure remained inhabited until 1991.
The lighthouse is an important reference for navigation and it is a landing light. It is a useful kind of lighthouse to guide boats into the port of Olbia.
Nowadays, the lighthouse’s signal function is assisted by two fog signals, a foghorn, which emits a sound reaching as far as 3 nautical miles, and a racon, a radar transponder.
