The “Villa Abbas” Archaeological City Museum is housed in a twentieth-century building, in the town centre. It can be found in piazza Libertà near the parish church of the Beata Vergine Assunta.
The exhibition space was opened in 1997 and covers two floors of the building with eight rooms. The most important archaeological sites in the surrounding area are represented in the museum: the archaeological site of Santa Anastasia, the Terr’e Cresia necropolis, the castle of Monreale and the sites in the area between Sardara and San Sperate.
The collections refer to pre-Nuragic and Nuragic eras, covering Punic and Roman civilisation, right up to Medieval times.
The museum’s exhibition also has a lecture room with tactile panels, while the collection has captions and a catalogue in Braille and an audio guide.
