The Prezzemolo Tower in Sardinian is known as the “de su Perdusemini” tower.
It stands near the former leper hospital and was built in 1578 to control the Cala Bernat below and the western part of Sant’Elia.
Built in limestone with the traditional truncated cone shape, it is one of the smallest coastal towers. It measured just 4.5 m in diameter and 7 m in height making it a fort whose sole purpose was as a lookout post.
The Prezzemolo Tower fell into disuse in 1638 following the construction of the Signal Tower at Calamosca. It was again used at the end of the XVIII century to face the attack and invasion of French troops, with the aid of canons which had been placed in the tower.
Its buttresses system along the rock at the base of the tower was created in 1967 to prevent the promontory from decaying.
