Chiesa di Santa Greca, Decimomannu

The church of Santa Greca (in Sardinian, church of Sant’Arega) stands in a large square on the outskirts of the town centre.

The church was built around the XVI century on the site of a former monastery. In the eighteenth century, the church underwent radical changes; during this period, the wooden ceiling was replaced with barrel vaults. Only the apse area remains of the original layout.

In 1933, more work was done on the building; the bell gable at the top of the facade was removed and an access door was inserted on the long side, changing the coping on the facade, now completed with a triangular gable. The bell gable at the top was replaced with a new square-shaped bell tower.

Well known is the feast which is named after it and which is held each year on the last week of September.
