The Church of Santa Maria di Coros is a rural church in the area of Ittiri. Originally, a Cistercian monastery stood on the site, part of the nearby abbey of Santa Maria di Paulis. It was probably a priorate seat and acted as a hermitage.
We have no information about the construction of the building, but it dates to the first half of the XIII century as is consistent with the construction practices of the Cistercian workforce operating in central-northern Sardinia.
Only parts of the sides and ogival barrel-vaulted ceiling crossed by a soffit remain of the Medieval structure. Indeed, the church underwent considerable alterations over the centuries, so much so, that they were incorporated into structures from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.
