Over the years, work has been carried out on the San Pietro church in different artistic styles. It was erected in the XV century on a former fourteenth-century church which coincides with the chapel dedicated to the Vergine del Rosario. Due to structural changes carried out over a number of centuries, very few traces remain of the church with Catalan-Gothic style consecrated in 1489.
The portal and three lights in the upper part open up on the smooth facade with double inflection end point. The square-planned bell tower stands next to the facade with regular trachyte ashlars. The building presents a wide, barrel-vaulted nave overlooked by six chapels.
The church houses a Baroque marble pulpit from 1783, the engraved high altar from the XVIII century with sculptures of San Pietro in cattedra (Saint Peter in the pulpit) and the saints, Paul and Andrew, while in the chapel of John the Baptist, we find the Pentecost altarpiece produced in 1534.
Also worth mentioning is the imposing San Pietro altarpiece. The work by the Master of Castelsardo was commissioned by husband and wife, Giovanni and Violante Santa Cruz and completed on 4 June 1500. Within, we find a golden Gothic style structure depicting episodes from the life of Saint Peter the apostle in the dais, while the Madonna with Child on the throne is represented in the median section with saints’ figures appearing in the side sections.
