{"id":32825,"date":"2023-12-19T17:06:48","date_gmt":"2023-12-19T16:06:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/idese.cultura.gov.it\/place\/church-of-san-michele-di-plaiano\/"},"modified":"2023-12-19T17:06:48","modified_gmt":"2023-12-19T16:06:48","slug":"church-of-san-michele-di-plaiano","status":"publish","type":"place","link":"https:\/\/idese.cultura.gov.it\/en\/place\/church-of-san-michele-di-plaiano\/","title":{"rendered":"Church of San Michele di Plaiano"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <strong>church of San Michele di Plaiano<\/strong> can be found in the countryside near <strong>Sassari<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In <strong>1082,<\/strong> the land around the current-day church was <strong>donated to the Opera del Duomo di Pisa<\/strong> on the wishes of <strong>Mariano I<\/strong>, <strong>Judge of Torres<\/strong>. At a later date, in <strong>1115<\/strong>, the church passed into the hands of the <strong>Camaldolesi monks<\/strong> at the San Zeno monastery and then, in <strong>1127, <\/strong>was run by the <strong>Vallombrosians<\/strong>. Finally, in <strong>1444,<\/strong> its property was incorporated into the <strong>archdiocese of Torres<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>We can split the <strong>construction of the building into two stages<\/strong>. The <strong>first one<\/strong> dates back to the donation of the land to the Opera di Santa Maria in 1082. The <strong>second<\/strong>, on the other hand, which concerns the <strong>extension<\/strong> of the church dates back to when it was entrusted to the Camaldolesi in 1115.<\/p>\n<p>The building has a <strong>single nave<\/strong> and a <strong>roof with wooden trusses<\/strong>. It <strong>has no apse<\/strong> following its removal.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>facade<\/strong>, re-designed during the second stage, is <strong>bipartie<\/strong> by a horizontal cornice which reflects in the <strong>corner blocks<\/strong>. At the <strong>southern end<\/strong>, parts of the building from a later date are grouped together.<\/p>\n<p><strong>In the lower part,<\/strong> the facade has <strong>three transoms<\/strong>, featuring half pilasters next to the portal and joined to small shell arches.
