From 1928 to 1946, the small town was annexed to the nearby town of Simaxis and was known as <strong>Ollastra Simaxis<\/strong>. In 1991, it became the current-day <strong>Ollastra<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The place name derives from \u201c<strong>ollastu<\/strong>\u201d, the local name given to the <strong>wild olive<\/strong>, a popular tree in this area.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Monte Ollastra<\/strong> reaches a maximum height of <strong>380 m. a.s.l.<\/strong> and its peaks are represented by <strong>dacites<\/strong> with clearly visible <strong>veins<\/strong> of <strong>white quartz<\/strong>. The mountain has two <strong>caves<\/strong>, <strong>s\u2019Arutta e \u2018conca e\u2019 mesu<\/strong> and <strong>s\u2019Arutta e\u2019 Margini Figu<\/strong>. The latter, in particular, is a <strong>natural cavern<\/strong> formed through the erosion of <strong>volcanic rocks<\/strong>, inside a dense forest, where there are numerous examples of <strong>wild fig<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Generally, the vegetation is typical of <strong>Mediterranean shrub<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>This area has been populated since <strong>prehistoric times<\/strong> as is shown by the presence of different <strong>archaeological sites<\/strong> like the<strong><\/strong> <strong>Accas<\/strong>, <strong>s\u2019Orco<\/strong> and <strong>San Perdu<\/strong> nuraghi and the remains of small residential settlements of <strong>clay and straw huts<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Heading up the mountain from the town of <strong>Villanova Truschedu<\/strong>, about 3 km away, you\u2019ll come to the <strong>equipped area<\/strong> of <strong>San Martino Ollastra<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":6,"featured_media":26160,"template":"","tipologia":[976],"categoria":[1022],"tematica":[1031],"class_list":["post-32811","place","type-place","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","tipologia-area-di-interesse-naturalistico-en","categoria-naturalistic-asset","tematica-nature"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v20.13 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/wordpress\/plugins\/seo\/ -->\n<title>Cresta Monte Ollastra - Idese<\/title>\n<meta name=\"robots\" content=\"index, follow, max-snippet:-1, max-image-preview:large, max-video-preview:-1\" \/>\n<link rel=\"canonical\" href=\"https:\/\/idese.cultura.gov.it\/place\/cresta-monte-ollastra\/\" \/>\n<meta property=\"og:locale\" content=\"en_GB\" \/>\n<meta property=\"og:type\" content=\"article\" \/>\n<meta property=\"og:title\" content=\"Cresta Monte Ollastra - Idese\" \/>\n<meta property=\"og:description\" content=\"Monte Ollastra is an elevation culminating in a crest which is very rough in a fairly remote area, at times featuring extensive reforestation projects.
