{"id":30168,"date":"2023-09-29T18:33:11","date_gmt":"2023-09-29T16:33:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/idese.cultura.gov.it\/place\/nuraghe-paddagiu-o-leni\/"},"modified":"2023-09-29T18:33:35","modified_gmt":"2023-09-29T16:33:35","slug":"nuraghe-paddagiu-o-leni","status":"publish","type":"place","link":"https:\/\/idese.cultura.gov.it\/en\/place\/nuraghe-paddagiu-o-leni\/","title":{"rendered":"Nuraghe Paddagiu o Leni"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A solitary construction on a hill not far from the domus known as &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/idese.cultura.gov.it\/place\/roccia-dellelefante\/\">roccia dell&#8217;elefante<\/a>\u201d (elephant rock).<br \/>\nThe nuraghe <strong>Paddagiu <\/strong>(or paddagiu, or paddaju), <strong>in Sardinian means haystack<\/strong>, perhaps because that was what this ancient construction was used for latterly. It served as a storeroom in Roman times and originally consisted of a main tower with typical \u201ctholos\u201d roof (i.e. false vault), a fortress with two side towers and a thick defence wall which also included the area covered by the village.<\/p>\n<p>All that remains now of the vast original complex <strong>is the ruins of the main tower<\/strong>, a stretch of <strong>about 27 metres<\/strong> <strong>of the defence wall<\/strong> and the foundation of a <strong>hut<\/strong> with a diameter of about 6 metres. The tower is about 11 metres in diameter at the base and 8.5 metres of remaining height.
