{"id":30167,"date":"2023-09-29T18:33:10","date_gmt":"2023-09-29T16:33:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/idese.cultura.gov.it\/place\/nuraghe-diana\/"},"modified":"2023-09-29T18:33:34","modified_gmt":"2023-09-29T16:33:34","slug":"nuraghe-diana","status":"publish","type":"place","link":"https:\/\/idese.cultura.gov.it\/en\/place\/nuraghe-diana\/","title":{"rendered":"Nuraghe Diana"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Nuraghe Diana sits at the top of a granite mound north of the small<strong> Is Mortorius,<\/strong>\u00a0promontory with<strong> a magnificent view over the Golfo degli Angeli.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The complex consists of a <strong>three-foil Nuraghe<\/strong> in <strong>blocks of grey granite<\/strong> and a <strong>village<\/strong>. The three-foil shape, enclosed within a <strong>fortress<\/strong> built using gigantic, bulky, heavy blocks was constructed all at the same time. The <strong>main tower with tholos roof<\/strong> is connected by a curtain wall to another <strong>two smaller towers<\/strong>. In the middle, we find<strong> a well-preserved, open-air quadrangular courtyard<\/strong> providing access to various rooms.<\/p>\n<p>During the <strong>second world war,<\/strong> <strong>defence and logistics systems<\/strong> were built in the area. <strong>A small fort<\/strong>, which is still visible today, was even built on top of the Nuraghe\u2019s main tower.<\/p>\n<p>According to <strong>legend<\/strong>, the wealthy <strong>pirate, Captain Mugahid hid an abundant booty near the Nuraghe Diana<\/strong>, but never managed to return and collect it. This legend led to intense clandestine digging around the Nuraghe. A large number of people tried to find the well where the treasure was supposedly hidden.<\/p>\n<p>The site can be reached from the coastal road, SP 17 connecting Quartu S. Elena with Villasimius.
