{"id":29984,"date":"2023-09-15T11:30:11","date_gmt":"2023-09-15T09:30:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/idese.cultura.gov.it\/place\/church-of-santanna\/"},"modified":"2023-09-15T13:06:09","modified_gmt":"2023-09-15T11:06:09","slug":"church-of-santanna","status":"publish","type":"place","link":"https:\/\/idese.cultura.gov.it\/en\/place\/church-of-santanna\/","title":{"rendered":"Church of Sant&#8217;Anna"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The modern-day church of Sant&#8217;Anna can be found where once the previous <strong>Romanesque-Pisan church<\/strong> stood, demolished in 1784 as a result of damage. The construction of the current-day building started on <strong>27 May 1785, <\/strong>from a project by the architect <strong>Giuseppe Viana. <\/strong>The work was so slow that the saying \u201cthe Sant\u2019Anna factory\u201d was coined to mean the never-ending work. The church was consecrated on 19 March<strong> 1917<\/strong> by the archbishop Niccol\u00f2 Navoni.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>facade<\/strong>, <strong>completed in 1938,<\/strong> extended almost 30 metres from ground level and followed the criteria of late <strong>Italian Rococ\u00f2<\/strong> or Piedmontese Barochetto. The movement of the lines and surfaces on the facade are reconfirmed in the dynamic layout of the pillars and columns inside.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>two bell towers<\/strong>, which sit slightly further back compared to the facade, have two clocks and are topped with cupolas on octagonal base.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>inside only<\/strong> has <strong>a single nave <\/strong>above which is a cupola with octagonal base, surrounded by four apse rooms. <strong>Eight ambons<\/strong> open out in the presbytery and transept area; to the <strong>right<\/strong> we find the ambons: the Rosary, the Crucifix, the Madonna del Fulmine and the blessed Amedeo di Savoia, while on the<strong> left<\/strong>: Christ the Saviour, Our Lady of Consolation, the Immaculate Conception and the Sacred Heart. The high altar where we find the statue of Sant\u2019Anna with the virgin and child, dates to 1906 and is the work of the Bennelli company from Seravezza.
