{"id":29850,"date":"2023-08-16T14:38:06","date_gmt":"2023-08-16T12:38:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/idese.cultura.gov.it\/place\/monte-ortobene\/"},"modified":"2023-08-16T14:38:06","modified_gmt":"2023-08-16T12:38:06","slug":"monte-ortobene","status":"publish","type":"place","link":"https:\/\/idese.cultura.gov.it\/en\/place\/monte-ortobene\/","title":{"rendered":"Monte Ortobene"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Monte Ortobene<\/strong> can be found in the city of <strong>Nuoro<\/strong>, in the province of the same name.<\/p>\n<p>Its <strong>peak<\/strong>, also known as <strong>C\u00f9ccuru Nigh\u00e8ddu<\/strong>, reaches <strong>955 m a.s.l.<\/strong>, while not far below, at a height of <strong>925 m a.s.l.<\/strong> we find the <strong>Statue of the Redeemer<\/strong>. The statue, erected in 1901, was the work of the <strong>sculptor, Vincenzo Jerace<\/strong> and is the symbol of <strong>Monte Ortobene<\/strong>. <\/p>\n<p>The mountain area extends for around 1,600 hectares. From a <strong>geological<\/strong> point of view, the mountain is <strong>granite rock and is part of the granitoid complex of Nuoro<\/strong>.<br \/>\nThe <strong>vegetation<\/strong> mainly features the presence of <strong>holm oak<\/strong> together with <strong>downy oak<\/strong>, <strong>cork<\/strong>, <strong>pine<\/strong>, <strong>juniper<\/strong>, <strong>rockrose<\/strong>, <strong>wild olive<\/strong>, <strong>phillyrea<\/strong>, <strong>mastic trees<\/strong>, <strong>broom<\/strong>, <strong>holly<\/strong>, <strong>strawberry trees<\/strong>, <strong>lavender<\/strong>, <strong>cyclamen<\/strong> and <strong>wild orchids<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Monte Ortobene<\/strong> is also the <strong><em>natural<\/em> habitat<\/strong> of different <strong>mammals<\/strong> such as <strong>boar<\/strong>, <strong>weasels<\/strong>, <strong>hares<\/strong>, <strong>martens<\/strong> and <strong>foxes<\/strong>. <strong>Birds of prey<\/strong> can be observed in the sky like the <strong>golden eagle<\/strong>, the <strong>goshawk<\/strong>, the <strong>peregrine falcon<\/strong>, the <strong>buzzard<\/strong> and the <strong>sparrowhawk<\/strong>. Other <strong>birds<\/strong> include <strong>partridges<\/strong>, <strong>turtledoves<\/strong>, <strong>spotted woodpeckers<\/strong>, <strong>jays<\/strong> and <strong>sparrows<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The mountain is full of <strong>marked paths and trails<\/strong> and this makes it a popular destination with <strong>trekking<\/strong> enthusiasts.
