{"id":29844,"date":"2023-08-16T14:38:05","date_gmt":"2023-08-16T12:38:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/idese.cultura.gov.it\/place\/lago-mulargia\/"},"modified":"2023-08-16T14:38:05","modified_gmt":"2023-08-16T12:38:05","slug":"lago-mulargia","status":"publish","type":"place","link":"https:\/\/idese.cultura.gov.it\/en\/place\/lago-mulargia\/","title":{"rendered":"Lago Mulargia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> L<strong>ake Mulargia<\/strong> lies in the municipalities of <strong>Orroli<\/strong>, <strong>Goni<\/strong>, <strong>Nurri<\/strong> and <strong>Siurgus Donigala<\/strong>, in the part of Sardinia where the historical areas of <strong>Gerrei<\/strong>, <strong>Trexenta<\/strong> and <strong>Sarcidano<\/strong> intersect, on the border with the province of <strong>Nuoro<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>As with almost all the lakes in Sardinia, this is an <strong>artificial reservoir<\/strong>, built between 1951 and 1958, the work of a stopbank on the <strong>Rio Mulargia<\/strong>. The basin is also supplied by water from the <strong>river Flumendosa<\/strong>,\u00a0brought via a 6 km-long, <strong>artificial tunnel<\/strong> from the nearby <strong>Lago Basso del Flumendosa<\/strong> (Orroli), creating a <strong>system of intercommunicating tanks<\/strong>. The reservoir contains 320 million cubic metres of water and reaches <strong>a depth of -80m<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Despite its artificial origin, the lake is now an <strong>important nature site<\/strong>, set amidst the backdrops of <strong>Monte Su Rei<\/strong> (446 m a.s.l.) and <strong>Monte Moretta<\/strong> (542 m a.s.l.).<br \/>\nThe <strong>lake-like ecosystem<\/strong> has become a <em><strong>habitat<\/strong><\/em> for different <strong>fauna species<\/strong>. Birds found here include <strong>herons<\/strong>, <strong>ducks<\/strong>, <strong>mallards<\/strong> and <strong>the common kingfisher<\/strong>. Fish found in the lake\u2019s waters include the <strong>European perch fish<\/strong>, <strong>the common chub<\/strong>, <strong>common carp<\/strong> and <strong>rainbow trout<\/strong>.
