The site can be found in Cuccuredd\u00ec on the SE slope of Monte Santa Vittoria in Barbagia di Seulo.<\/p>\n
This is the largest Nuragic “megaron” temple known<\/strong>. The building, enclosed by a large oval-shaped temenos, is rectangular with vestibule and two rooms. The building was built with long, sturdy slabs of schist. The existence of a lithic double-pitch roof is clarified by the discovery of numerous collapsed roof slabs. Originally, these were probably arranged at even intervals above the roof\u2019s wooden truss. The building was originally plastered on the inside. In the temple\u2019s vestibule, archaeologists uncovered a group of ten bronze statuettes.<\/strong>\u00a0One significant one is the statue of an archer with armour and short studded skirt.<\/strong> The archer\u2019s head is protected by a typical traditional Nuragic horned helmet. Furthermore, there are female statuettes wearing a tunic and wide cape with decorated band, perhaps of a priestess. One of her male suitors has a long stole draped over his left shoulder. The group of bronze statuettes also includes animals. Worth mentioning is a deer mauled at the neck by a dog<\/strong> with collar.<\/p>\n Pass through the town of Esterzili to reach the site and continue on for about 1 km then turn left onto the road climbing Monte Santa Vittoria. When you reach to summit, turn right and follow indications for the peak. Here you will find a fork on the right for the archaeological compound of Monte Santa Vittoria.
