{"id":29768,"date":"2023-08-11T11:31:06","date_gmt":"2023-08-11T09:31:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/idese.cultura.gov.it\/place\/church-of-santa-maria\/"},"modified":"2023-08-11T11:31:06","modified_gmt":"2023-08-11T09:31:06","slug":"church-of-santa-maria","status":"publish","type":"place","link":"https:\/\/idese.cultura.gov.it\/en\/place\/church-of-santa-maria\/","title":{"rendered":"Church of Santa Maria"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The church of Santa Maria can be found in the <strong>outskirts<\/strong> of Uta, in a green area with annexed cemetery.<\/p>\n<p>It is impossible to attach an exact date to this Romanesque building; however, it can be dated to around the middle of the<strong> XII century<\/strong>, when the Vittorini monks of Marseilles built on the remains of a pre-existing church. Its <strong>first documented mention<\/strong> dates to <strong>1363<\/strong>, when Pietro IV d&#8217;Aragona gifted the place of worship to the Knights of St George.<\/p>\n<p>The church has <strong>three naves<\/strong> separated by rounded arches; the central nave concludes with a raised <strong>presbytery<\/strong> and a semicircular, east-facing <strong>apse<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Outside, the <strong>elevations<\/strong> are decorated with <strong>suspended arches<\/strong> on decorated brackets which run the length of the perimeter, ending in a horizontal strip on the facade. The elevations of the central nave are above those of the two aisles; these provide internal light through the <strong>double-arched windows<\/strong> arranged along the sides.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>facade<\/strong> is enclosed between angular pilasters and concludes with a mixtilinear end point which reveals the internal three-nave arrangement.
