The building was constructed in <strong>1370<\/strong>, during the <strong>Aragonese domination<\/strong>, on the site of a third-century church dedicated to Santa Maria del Porto.<\/p>\n<p>The gabled <strong>facade<\/strong> decorated with suspended arches, is enclosed by <strong>angular buttresses<\/strong>, while on the right stands the tall square-shaped <strong>bell tower<\/strong> with eighteenth century octagonal tower. In the middle of the facade is a large <strong>portal<\/strong> with moulded arch and eyebrow and large oculus with stain glass window.<\/p>\n<p>The parish has a large <strong>nave<\/strong> split into two aisles by ogival arches, followed by a raised <strong>presbytery<\/strong>. Four <strong>chapels<\/strong> open out each side of the central nave; they communicate with one another and act as real side naves.<\/p>\n<p>While the <strong>star cross vaults<\/strong>, which cover the presbytery and central nave, follow the Catalan-Gothic style, the <strong>Baroque altars<\/strong> in the side chapels and the furnishings show off the building\u2019s modernisation work. The chapel is also home to a canvas by <strong>Giovanni Marghinotti<\/strong> from 1864 depicting the <strong>Last Supper<\/strong> and the eighteenth century wooden polychrome sculpture of <strong>Santa Lucia<\/strong> created by <strong>Antonio Lonis<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The church is part of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mutseu.org\/it\/mutseu\/\">MUTSEU<\/a> museum system which includes the <a title=\"Area Archeologica\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mutseu.org\/it\/mutseu\/area-archeologica\/\">Archaeological site<\/a> below, the <a title=\"Museo del Tesoro e gli Archivi\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mutseu.org\/it\/mutseu\/museo-del-tesoro\/\">Treasure Museum and Archives<\/a>, the <a title=\"Chiesa del Santo Sepolcro\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mutseu.org\/it\/sistema-santeulalia\/chiesa-del-santo-sepolcro\/\">church of Santo Sepolcro<\/a>, with the Monumental Crypt and the adjoining archaeological site, and archaeological excavations of the\u00a0<a title=\"Chiesa di Santa Lucia\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mutseu.org\/it\/sistema-santeulalia\/area-archeologica-santa-lucia\/\">church of Santa Lucia<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":6245,"template":"","tipologia":[979],"categoria":[1023],"tematica":[1030],"class_list":["post-29765","place","type-place","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","tipologia-chiesa-en","categoria-architectural-asset","tematica-architecture"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v20.13 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/wordpress\/plugins\/seo\/ -->\n<title>Parish church of Sant&#039;Eulalia - Idese<\/title>\n<meta name=\"robots\" content=\"index, follow, max-snippet:-1, max-image-preview:large, max-video-preview:-1\" \/>\n<link rel=\"canonical\" href=\"https:\/\/idese.cultura.gov.it\/en\/place\/parish-church-of-santeulalia\/\" \/>\n<meta property=\"og:locale\" content=\"en_GB\" \/>\n<meta property=\"og:type\" content=\"article\" \/>\n<meta property=\"og:title\" content=\"Parish church of Sant&#039;Eulalia - Idese\" \/>\n<meta property=\"og:description\" content=\"The church dedicated to the patron saint of the city of Barcelona is located in the Marina neighbourhood; the imposing building above the square of the same name, overlooks a flight of steps.
