{"id":29727,"date":"2023-08-10T10:01:12","date_gmt":"2023-08-10T08:01:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/idese.cultura.gov.it\/place\/lago-omodeo\/"},"modified":"2023-11-09T08:48:44","modified_gmt":"2023-11-09T07:48:44","slug":"lago-omodeo","status":"publish","type":"place","link":"https:\/\/idese.cultura.gov.it\/en\/place\/lago-omodeo\/","title":{"rendered":"Lago Omodeo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Lake Omodeo<\/strong> is an extensive artificial basin originally created by the stopbank of the <strong>Santa Chiara dam<\/strong> (1924) in the area of <strong>Ula Tirso<\/strong>. A second stopbank was later built in 1997, the <strong>Eleonora d\u2019Arborea dam<\/strong>, in the area of <strong>Busachi<\/strong>. This operation was essential following the collapse of parts of the old structure, as well as to increase the reservoir\u2019s capacity. The overall volume of the reservoir Is currently <strong>792 M cubic metres of water<\/strong>, covering an area of 29,370 Km2.<\/p>\n<p>The lake falls within <strong>11 municipalities<\/strong> in the region of <strong>Barigadu<\/strong>, in the province of <strong>Oristano<\/strong>: <strong>Aidomaggiore<\/strong>, <strong>Ardauli<\/strong>, <strong>Bidon\u00ec<\/strong>, <strong>Busachi<\/strong>, <strong>Ghilarza<\/strong>, <strong>Nughedu Santa Vittoria<\/strong>, <strong>Sedilo<\/strong>, <strong>Sodd\u00ec<\/strong>, <strong>Sorradile<\/strong>, <strong>Tadasuni<\/strong> and <strong>Ula Tirso<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The creation of the Lake has markedly shaped the surrounding land, rich in forests and interesting for the numerous man-made works linked to the vast project. Indeed, simultaneously with the advancement of the works, the ancient <strong>Medieval hamlet of Zuri<\/strong> upstream is being dismantled and rebuilt using recycled material. The works also concern the <strong>small ancient Romanesque church of San Pietro<\/strong>, dating back to the end of 1200, built using an unusual <strong>red trachyte rock<\/strong>. The lake\u2019s water partly submerges the <strong>petrified wood of Zuri \u2013 Soddi<\/strong> as well as the <strong>pre-Nuragic settlement of Serra Linta<\/strong>, some <strong>tombs of Giants<\/strong> and <strong>domus de janas<\/strong>. The submerged heritage re-emerges sometimes when the basin\u2019s level drops in warmer weather.<\/p>\n<p>From a <strong>naturalistic<\/strong> point of view, the lake\u2019s shores mainly feature <strong>forest formations<\/strong> of <strong>holm oak<\/strong>, <strong>downy oak<\/strong> and <strong>Mediterranean shrub<\/strong>. You can also observe specimens of <strong>white poplar<\/strong>, <strong>crack willow<\/strong>, <strong>ulmus minor<\/strong>, <strong>ash trees<\/strong>, <strong>salt cedars<\/strong> and <strong>bay tree<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The area has a wealth of both seasonal and migratory birds. Some of the species that can be spotted include the <strong>European roller<\/strong>, the <strong>Eurasian stone-curlew<\/strong>, the <strong>peregrine falcon<\/strong>, the <strong>osprey<\/strong> and the <strong>common sandpiper<\/strong>. The presence of the lake brought with it a number of aquatic species including the <strong>northern pintail<\/strong>, the <strong>common pochard<\/strong>, the <strong>northern<\/strong> <strong>shoveler<\/strong>, the <strong>Eurasian teal<\/strong>, the <strong>Eurasian wigeon<\/strong>, the <strong>coots<\/strong>, the <strong>common morhen<\/strong>, the <strong>mallard<\/strong>, the <strong>gadwall<\/strong>, the <strong>Greylag goose<\/strong>, the <strong>little egret<\/strong>, the <strong>great egret<\/strong> and the <strong>grey heron<\/strong>.<br \/>\nAlso visible in the area are <strong>amphibians<\/strong> and <strong>reptiles<\/strong>, including <strong>toads<\/strong>, the <strong>European pond turtle<br \/>\n<\/strong> and the <strong>Hermann&#8217;s tortoise<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The lake is dedicated to the <strong>engineer Angelo Omodeo<\/strong> who designed the <strong>Santa Chiara dam<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":6,"featured_media":10766,"template":"","tipologia":[1068],"categoria":[1022],"tematica":[1031],"class_list":["post-29727","place","type-place","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","tipologia-lake","categoria-naturalistic-asset","tematica-nature"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v20.13 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/wordpress\/plugins\/seo\/ -->\n<title>Lago Omodeo - Idese<\/title>\n<meta name=\"robots\" content=\"index, follow, max-snippet:-1, max-image-preview:large, max-video-preview:-1\" \/>\n<link rel=\"canonical\" href=\"https:\/\/idese.cultura.gov.it\/en\/place\/lago-omodeo\/\" \/>\n<meta property=\"og:locale\" content=\"en_GB\" \/>\n<meta property=\"og:type\" content=\"article\" \/>\n<meta property=\"og:title\" content=\"Lago Omodeo - Idese\" \/>\n<meta property=\"og:description\" content=\"Lake Omodeo is an extensive artificial basin originally created by the stopbank of the Santa Chiara dam (1924) in the area of Ula Tirso.
