{"id":29668,"date":"2023-08-03T11:54:32","date_gmt":"2023-08-03T09:54:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/idese.cultura.gov.it\/place\/perda-e-liana\/"},"modified":"2023-11-08T13:02:48","modified_gmt":"2023-11-08T12:02:48","slug":"perda-e-liana","status":"publish","type":"place","link":"https:\/\/idese.cultura.gov.it\/en\/place\/perda-e-liana\/","title":{"rendered":"Perda &#8216;e Liana"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The natural monument of <strong>Perda &#8216;e Liana<\/strong> can be found in the district of <strong>Gairo<\/strong>, in the province of <strong>Nuoro<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The morphology of this elevation is typical of the \u201c<strong><em>tacchi<\/em><\/strong>\u201d (buttes) dell\u2019<strong>Ogliastra<\/strong> and, at height of <strong>1,293 m a.s.l.<\/strong>, Perd\u2019e Liana is the tallest one.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>geology<\/strong> of the butte features different <strong>limestone rocks<\/strong>. The upper part, the actual tower of the butte is a cylinder of <strong>Dolomite rock<\/strong>, with a <strong>diameter spanning around 100 metres<\/strong>. Its vertical walls are about <strong>50 metres high<\/strong>. The peak of the butte dates to the <strong>Jurassic period<\/strong> (130 -150 million years ago and is linked to processes of <strong>underwater environmental sedimentation<\/strong>, as is clear from the <strong>marine fossils<\/strong> found in the rock. The truncated-conical base of the butte, on the other hand, consists of <strong>arenaceous rock<\/strong> from the <strong>Mesozoic era<\/strong> which, in turn, rests on the older <strong>schistose rocks<\/strong> from the <strong>Palaeozoic age<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>From a <strong>flora<\/strong> point of view, the <strong>rockrose<\/strong> is the most popular <strong>bush<\/strong> found here. Together with this plant, we can find <strong>herbs<\/strong> such as <strong>thyme<\/strong>, and the typical essences of <strong>Mediterranean shrub<\/strong> like <strong>strawberry tree<\/strong> and <strong>heather<\/strong>. Tree species include <strong>Montpellier maple<\/strong> and <strong>holm oak<\/strong>. At ground level, we can also the observe the <strong>bluebell<\/strong>, <strong>micromeria<\/strong>, the <strong>Orchis mascula<\/strong>, the <strong>Ophrys morisii<\/strong>, the <strong>buckthorn<\/strong>, the <strong>saxifrage<\/strong> and the <strong>whitebeam<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the most commonly found <strong>animals<\/strong> here include the <strong>mouflon<\/strong>, <strong>wild cat<\/strong> and <strong>dormouse<\/strong>. In the skies above, it is common to spot the <strong>golden eagle<\/strong>, <strong>Bonelli\u2019s eagle<\/strong>, <strong>peregrine falcon<\/strong>, <strong>buzzard<\/strong>, <strong>sparrowhawk<\/strong>, <strong>goshawk<\/strong>, <strong>kite<\/strong>, <strong>griffon<\/strong>, <strong>Cinereous vulture<\/strong> and <strong>bearded vulture<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to its shape, <strong>Perd\u2019e Liana<\/strong> was, for a long time, linked to <strong>religious worship<\/strong>, probably as early as the <strong>Nuragic era<\/strong> or, in any case, <strong>pre-Christian<\/strong> times. A number of <strong>popular legends<\/strong> link it to the <strong>entrance to hell<\/strong>. In the collective imagination, the <strong>devils<\/strong> would come out and <strong>dance around it in the moonlight<\/strong> ready to grant people\u2019s wishes in exchange for their soul.<\/p>\n<p>The name \u201c<strong><em>liana<\/em><\/strong>\u201d may derive from the <strong>smooth rock\u2019s<\/strong> features or from the <strong>Sardinian name for the strawberry tree, \u201c<\/strong>olione<strong>\u201d<\/strong>. Other interpretations refer to the <strong>Nuragic people, the <em>Ilienses<\/em><\/strong> who probably regarded the butte as a holy place.
