{"id":29667,"date":"2023-08-03T11:54:31","date_gmt":"2023-08-03T09:54:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/idese.cultura.gov.it\/place\/feste-di-santantonio-e-di-san-sebastiano\/"},"modified":"2023-11-08T12:43:37","modified_gmt":"2023-11-08T11:43:37","slug":"feste-di-santantonio-e-di-san-sebastiano","status":"publish","type":"place","link":"https:\/\/idese.cultura.gov.it\/en\/place\/feste-di-santantonio-e-di-san-sebastiano\/","title":{"rendered":"Feste di Sant&#8217;Antonio e di San Sebastiano"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <strong>feast of Sant\u2019Antonio <\/strong>and<strong> San Sebastiano<\/strong> are two recurring events which the people of Samugheo love dearly.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>feast of Sant\u2019Antonio<\/strong> is held on <strong>16 <\/strong>and<strong> 17 January<\/strong>, while <strong>San Sebastiano<\/strong> is celebrated on <strong>19<\/strong> and <strong>20 January<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The two feast days are similarly organised: they start <strong>on the &#8220;day of the vespers&#8221;<\/strong>\u00a0with the <strong>search for wood<\/strong> in the town\u2019s houses followed by the creation, blessing and lighting of a bonfire in the main square.<\/p>\n<p>Again <strong>on the evening of the vespers,<\/strong> at the parish church, the <strong>rosary<\/strong> is sung together with the &#8220;<strong>is gocios<\/strong>&#8221; (a religious song <strong>in Sardinian <\/strong>dedicated to the saint)\u00a0and vigils are organised with traditional singing and dancing, which ends at dawn with a moment of prayer.<\/p>\n<p>On the <strong>morning of the feast day<\/strong> a <strong>procession<\/strong> is held through the streets of the town and a solemn  <strong>mass<\/strong> is said, ending again with the singing of the &#8220;is gocios&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>feast of Sant\u2019Antonio<\/strong> is <strong>the start of Sardinia\u2019s carnival period <\/strong>, marked by the <strong>first exit of the S\u2019Urtzu e is Mamutzones<\/strong> masks, which perform their ritual danze around the bonfire.
