{"id":29652,"date":"2023-08-03T11:54:18","date_gmt":"2023-08-03T09:54:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/idese.cultura.gov.it\/place\/capo-testa-and-the-valle-della-luna\/"},"modified":"2023-11-08T10:31:33","modified_gmt":"2023-11-08T09:31:33","slug":"capo-testa-and-the-valle-della-luna","status":"publish","type":"place","link":"https:\/\/idese.cultura.gov.it\/en\/place\/capo-testa-and-the-valle-della-luna\/","title":{"rendered":"Capo Testa and the Valle della Luna"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Capo Testa<\/strong> is a small <strong>peninsula<\/strong> to the <strong>north<\/strong> of <strong>Sardinia<\/strong>, in the area of <strong>Santa Teresa di Gallura<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Capo Testa<\/strong> or \u201c<em><strong>Capu Testa<\/strong><\/em>\u201d in <strong>Gallurese dialect<\/strong> and in <strong>Corsican<\/strong>, was originally a <strong>small island<\/strong>, artificially connected to dry land via an isthmus with a road running across it. This has ensured that nowadays <strong>two beaches<\/strong> extend either side: <strong>Rena di Ponente<\/strong> overlooking the southwest and <strong>Rena di Levante<\/strong> to the northeast.<\/p>\n<p>The perimeter of the peninsular is around <strong>10 kilometres<\/strong> and the <strong>landscape<\/strong> is dominated by <strong>granite rock typically found in Gallura<\/strong>, with their <strong>erosion forms<\/strong> created by atmospheric agents, known as \u201c<em><strong>tafoni<\/strong><\/em>\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>vegetation<\/strong> includes <strong>types of Mediterranean shrub bushes<\/strong> with <strong>juniper <\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Mastic trees<\/strong>, as well as different <strong>local flora species<\/strong>, typically found in the area.<\/p>\n<p>Another characteristic element of the Cape is the \u201c<strong>Cala Grande<\/strong>\u201d at the end of the section known as <strong>Valle della Luna<\/strong>. The <strong>natural processes<\/strong> have, in fact, led to the formation of <strong>different valleys<\/strong> and this scenario led, in the <strong>1960s<\/strong> to the establishment of a <strong>community of <em>hippies<\/em><\/strong> who chose to live there, in contact with nature and far from busy city life. The name, <strong>Valle della Luna<\/strong> recalls the <strong>colour of the rocks<\/strong> and their intense dim light on nights lit up by <strong>moonlight<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The<strong> history of Capo Testa<\/strong> is even older, in fact, the site was populated as far back as <strong>Roman<\/strong> times when they <strong>excavated the granite<\/strong> to take it to <strong>Rome<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Nowadays, there is a lighthouse on the <strong>Capo Testa<\/strong> promontory, an important element for <strong>navigation<\/strong> across the <strong>Strait of Bonifacio<\/strong>.
