{"id":29639,"date":"2023-08-03T11:49:55","date_gmt":"2023-08-03T09:49:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/idese.cultura.gov.it\/place\/foresta-burgos\/"},"modified":"2023-08-03T11:49:55","modified_gmt":"2023-08-03T09:49:55","slug":"foresta-burgos","status":"publish","type":"place","link":"https:\/\/idese.cultura.gov.it\/en\/place\/foresta-burgos\/","title":{"rendered":"Foresta Burgos"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Burgos Forest<\/strong> lies halfway between the municipalities of <strong>Burgos<\/strong> and <strong>Bono<\/strong>, in the province of <strong>Sassari<\/strong>, in the historical region of <strong>Goceano<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>forest<\/strong> consists mainly of <strong>downy oak<\/strong> trees and mixed forestry formations of <strong>holm oak<\/strong> and <strong>cork<\/strong>, interspersed with vast <strong>meadows<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>This area has seen various <strong>anthropic activities<\/strong> since ancient times.<br \/>\nThere are a lot of important and interesting <strong>archaeological settlements<\/strong> here, like the <strong>large polylobed Nuraghe Costa<\/strong> and the <strong>Nuraghe Erismanzanu<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In recent times, at the end of the XIV century, the first <strong>animal rearing began<\/strong>, starting with a small farm which went on to become, in 1906, a <strong>place for the royal army<\/strong> to <strong>breed horses for the police and Carabinieri<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Around this activity, a <strong>small town grew up<\/strong>, which is now abandoned.<br \/>\nAt the <strong>end of the 1950s<\/strong>, the military work ended and the village was abandoned as a result. However, the horse rearing activity was handed over to the <strong>Horse Breeding Institute in Ozieri<\/strong>, which is still operational to this day. Indeed, there are still covered <strong>stables<\/strong> for training and preparing the <strong>horses<\/strong> for <strong>competitive activity<\/strong> and a <strong>horse-riding school<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Nowadays, the <strong>Burgos Forest<\/strong> hosts various <strong>breeds of horse<\/strong>, especially the <strong>Sardinian Anglo-Arab<\/strong> and the <strong>Sardinian pony<\/strong>. To be precise, this species is known as \u201c<em><strong>Giarab<\/strong><\/em>\u201d, because it is the result of crossbreeding between the Giara and Arab stallions. The area also hosts different examples of<strong> albino donkeys<\/strong> originally from <strong>Asinara<\/strong>.
