{"id":29581,"date":"2023-08-03T11:43:36","date_gmt":"2023-08-03T09:43:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/idese.cultura.gov.it\/place\/prehistoric-compound-of-pranu-mutteddu\/"},"modified":"2023-08-25T14:12:16","modified_gmt":"2023-08-25T12:12:16","slug":"prehistoric-compound-of-pranu-mutteddu","status":"publish","type":"place","link":"https:\/\/idese.cultura.gov.it\/en\/place\/prehistoric-compound-of-pranu-mutteddu\/","title":{"rendered":"Prehistoric Compound of Pranu Mutteddu"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The archaeological site stands in <strong>an area of around 200 Km2, densely covered in hundred-year-old oak trees and Mediterranean shrub<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The area is home to an <strong>exceptional number and variety of prehistoric funeral and sacred findings<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The archaeological digs carried out by Enrico Atzeni in the 1970s\/\u201980s led the site to be attributed to the \u201cOzieri culture\u201d, widespread in Sardinia in the Late Neolithic period.<\/p>\n<p>The monuments that make up the funeral area are built in local sandstone. The tombs are made up of funeral chambers enclosed in<strong> megalithic circles<\/strong> produced with <strong>blocks laid in concentric circles<\/strong>. The funeral cells are made of lithic cistas or chambers dug out inside large boulders, or still built with drywall.<\/p>\n<p>The area also includes <strong>about 60 menhirs<\/strong>, some linked to the grave structures, others arranged in <strong>more or less vast alignments<\/strong>. The menhirs belong to the <strong>aniconic and protoanthropomorphic type<\/strong>, with ogival profile and plano-convex section.<\/p>\n<p>Of the funeral monuments, the <strong>tomb II<\/strong>\u00a0shows a captivating<strong> mixture of megalithism and hypogeism<\/strong>, a kind of domus de janas above ground.<br \/>\nIn a first <strong>large mass of sandstone,<\/strong> an <strong>access opening to the monument<\/strong> was dug.<br \/>\nThe <strong>internal space<\/strong> is <strong>divided into four rooms <\/strong>with small walls arranged in spokes <strong>around a second large boulder<\/strong> of sandstone, placed in the middle of the structure.<br \/>\n<strong>The anti-cell and main cell were dug in sequence <\/strong>inside this boulder. They are surrounded by<strong> three concentric wall rings, <\/strong>their purpose being to hold the burial mound, no longer there, which covered the entire structure.<\/p>\n<div class=\"textimage\">\n<p>The Park offers guided tours even in different languages. There is a picnic area for visitors, an eating area and a small boutique for purchasing souvenirs.<\/p>\n<p>From the town of Goni, take the country road SP23 in the direct of San Basilio. After 2.3 km, you\u2019ll see the entrance to the archaeological site on your left.
