{"id":29307,"date":"2023-07-14T15:05:08","date_gmt":"2023-07-14T13:05:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/idese.cultura.gov.it\/place\/sa-marchesa-geological-speleological-archaeological-site\/"},"modified":"2023-07-18T15:07:12","modified_gmt":"2023-07-18T13:07:12","slug":"sa-marchesa-geological-speleological-archaeological-site","status":"publish","type":"place","link":"https:\/\/idese.cultura.gov.it\/en\/place\/sa-marchesa-geological-speleological-archaeological-site\/","title":{"rendered":"Sa Marchesa Geological Speleological Archaeological Site"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The area of <strong>Nuxis<\/strong> is full of <strong>natural caverns<\/strong> and <strong>mines<\/strong>, linked to human presence as far back as ancient times.<\/p>\n<p>In the area of <strong>Sa Marchesa<\/strong> in particular, in the hamlet of <strong>Acquacadda<\/strong>, the unique <strong>Sa Marchesa Geological Speleological Archaeological Site<\/strong> was created. This site includes a <strong>museum area<\/strong>, a <strong>naturalistic geological-mining park<\/strong> and a <strong>cave<\/strong>, which can be easily visited with an advanced booking.<\/p>\n<p>The cave in question is called <strong>Su Montixeddu<\/strong> and can be found at a height of 215 metres. The cavern extends for a total of around 200 metres with a planimetric mapping of 170 metres, reaching a depth of 27 metres.<\/p>\n<p>The cavern develops mainly in the Paleozoic limestone rocks from the <strong>Middle Cambrian period<\/strong>, typical of the <strong>Sulcis<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The interest and traditions linked to this cavern are extremely old. Indeed, <strong>fragments of prehistoric ceramics<\/strong> were found inside the cave. Furthermore, ruins of <strong>Nuraghe<\/strong> were also found in the area.<\/p>\n<p>Another important cavern in the area is the &#8220;<strong>Su Fossu de sa Cava de su Tipu<\/strong>\u201d cave, to the south of the town of <strong>Nuxis<\/strong>.<br \/>\nThe architecture of the cavern is unique and was uncovered during work to create a <strong>limestone quarry<\/strong>. Furthermore, <strong>settlements from the Nuragic era <\/strong>and the <strong>holy well of Tattinu<\/strong> were discovered near the cave.<br \/>\nResearch on the cave only began recently as it was previously used as a dump. For a long time, this bad practice impeded access to the cave, especially due to its internal emissions.<\/p>\n<p>From a <strong>flora<\/strong> point of view in the area, there are species of <strong>Mediterranean shrub<\/strong> worth pointing out (<strong>wild olive<\/strong>, <strong>Mastic tree<\/strong>, <strong>rockrose <\/strong>etc.). At the foot of the Su Montixeddu hill, we find <strong>olive groves<\/strong> and <strong>vineyards<\/strong>.
