{"id":29231,"date":"2023-07-07T14:24:12","date_gmt":"2023-07-07T12:24:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/idese.cultura.gov.it\/place\/bosco-di-selene\/"},"modified":"2023-07-10T11:47:41","modified_gmt":"2023-07-10T09:47:41","slug":"bosco-di-selene","status":"publish","type":"place","link":"https:\/\/idese.cultura.gov.it\/en\/place\/bosco-di-selene\/","title":{"rendered":"Bosco di Selene"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <strong>Selene wood<\/strong> (or <strong>Seleni<\/strong>) can be found deep into <strong>Ogliastra<\/strong> and six kilometres from the town of <strong>Lanusei<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Its name refers to the Greek <strong>worship<\/strong> of the <strong>Lunar deity <\/strong>and it sits on a <strong>granite plateau <\/strong>around 900 metres in height. Full of what seem to be never-ending pathways, the wood offers <strong>holm oaks<\/strong>, <strong>chestnut trees<\/strong>, <strong>durmast trees<\/strong>, <strong>poplar trees,<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>oak trees <\/strong>and <strong>Mediterranean shrub. <\/strong>The wood area is also noteworthy for its numerous <strong>springs<\/strong> of clean, fresh water.<\/p>\n<p>Strolling along the shaded pathways, inebriated by natural scents, you will come to the area\u2019s <strong>belvedere<\/strong> and enjoy a unique view even of the sea by looking out over the horizon.<\/p>\n<p>The place is also an ideal <em><strong>habitat<\/strong><\/em> for certain species of animal typically found in the Sardinian hinterland, like <strong>boar<\/strong>, <strong>foxes<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>weasels<\/strong>, <strong>jays<\/strong> and <strong>barn owls<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>As well as wild and uncontaminated nature, unusual traces of <strong>nuragic civilisations<\/strong> and their <strong>worship of the dead<\/strong> can be found in the park.<\/p>\n<p>Indeed, the wood is home to the <a href=\"https:\/\/idese.cultura.gov.it\/place\/complesso-nuragico-di-seleni\/\"><strong>Seleni Archaeological Site<\/strong><\/a>, evocative proof of Nuragic civilisation. The archaeological site dates back to a period between the Middle Bronze Age and the end of the Bronze Age.
