{"id":29208,"date":"2023-07-06T11:42:11","date_gmt":"2023-07-06T09:42:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/idese.cultura.gov.it\/place\/cala-goloritze\/"},"modified":"2023-07-07T13:12:00","modified_gmt":"2023-07-07T11:12:00","slug":"cala-goloritze","status":"publish","type":"place","link":"https:\/\/idese.cultura.gov.it\/en\/place\/cala-goloritze\/","title":{"rendered":"Cala Goloritz\u00e8"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In the panorama of <strong>limestone rocks<\/strong> featuring in the <strong>Golfo di Orosei<\/strong>, you will find different formations which extend for around 40 km.<br \/>\nThere are <strong>cliffs<\/strong>, <strong>sheer walls<\/strong>, <strong>terraces<\/strong> and <strong>escarpments<\/strong> which make way for various <strong>small beaches<\/strong> in the inlets.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Cala Goloritz\u00e8<\/strong> beach sits in this panorama at the outlet to the sea for the rio of the same name.<br \/>\nThe beach sits on a stretch of limestone coastline, where the action of the sea and the karst have produced different forms of particularly significant erosion.<\/p>\n<p>The beach is a <strong>clear colour<\/strong>, with <strong>small pebbles<\/strong> and <strong>sand<\/strong>. The <strong>sea water<\/strong> is <strong>crystal clear<\/strong>, with colours ranging from <strong>turquoise<\/strong> to <strong>light blue<\/strong> to <strong>emerald green<\/strong>. These colours are the result of not only the clear colour of the sand and rocks but also the <strong>presence of freshwater streams<\/strong>. These streams which emerge from the seabed make the sea water less salty and purer, so the light filters more easily through it.<\/p>\n<p>Dominating the characteristic <strong>rock shapes<\/strong> is a particular stretch of cliff. This thins out and stretches towards the sea to form the characteristic <strong>rock arch<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Another important and majestic element is the <strong>natural monument<\/strong> known as the <strong>Aguglia<\/strong> (<strong>Monte Caroddi<\/strong>). This formation of <strong>limestone rock<\/strong> has a monolith standing around <strong>147 metres<\/strong> high, surrounded by a series of minor peaks.<\/p>\n<p>From a <strong>flora<\/strong> point of view, the \u201c<strong><em>codula<\/em><\/strong>\u201d (<strong>gorge<\/strong>) of Goloritz\u00e8, is home to a <strong>luxuriant vegetation<\/strong> akin to <strong>Mediterranean shrub<\/strong>, with <strong>strawberry tree<\/strong>, <strong>terebinths<\/strong>, <strong>manna ash<\/strong> and <strong>Ostrya carpinifolia<\/strong>. There is also a small <strong>holm oak wood<\/strong> (<em><strong>Bacu Goloritz\u00e8<\/strong><\/em>).<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>place name \u201cGoloritz\u00e8\u201d<\/strong> appears to derive from the Sard word\u00a0<strong><em>kol\u00f2ru<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0or\u00a0<strong><em>kol\u00f2vru<\/em><\/strong> meaning &#8220;<strong>snake<\/strong>&#8220;, and probably refers to the shape of the rio of the same name.<\/p>\n<p>The beach with all its naturalistic, geological, flora and fauna elements falls within the confines of the \u201c<strong>National Park of the Golfo di Orosei and Gennargentu<\/strong>\u201d and is part of the <strong>Sites of Community Importance<\/strong> (SCI) \u201c<strong>Golfo di Orosei<\/strong>\u201d (ITB020014), regulated by the <strong>Rete Natura2000<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>After leaving your car in the car park near the <em><strong>Su Porteddu<\/strong><\/em> <strong>kiosk<\/strong>, you can walk to the beach along a path for about 3 km. The path includes a part of the \u201c<strong>Selvaggio Blu<\/strong>\u201d route. The Cala can be easily reached from the sea.<\/p>\n<p>Different, important natural elements known as <strong>Baccu<\/strong> can be observed along the routes.\u00a0The <strong>Baccu<\/strong>, or \u201c<strong>Bacos<\/strong>\u201d, are <strong>deep gorges<\/strong> typically found in <strong>Supramonte di Baunei<\/strong>, which generally end in descents, stairways and coves in the sea which are often almost impassable. Along the route, it is not unusual to come across woods with plants which are centuries old and encounter karstic cavities, landslides and stone quarries.
