{"id":29203,"date":"2023-07-06T11:42:11","date_gmt":"2023-07-06T09:42:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/idese.cultura.gov.it\/place\/cala-biriala\/"},"modified":"2023-07-06T11:42:11","modified_gmt":"2023-07-06T09:42:11","slug":"cala-biriala","status":"publish","type":"place","link":"https:\/\/idese.cultura.gov.it\/en\/place\/cala-biriala\/","title":{"rendered":"Cala Biriala"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Cala Biriala<\/strong> (or \u201c<strong>Biriola<\/strong>\u201d) sits in the <strong>Golfo di Orosei<\/strong>, in the municipal district of <strong>Baunei<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>It is a <strong>small natural inlet<\/strong> with a <strong>pebble<\/strong> and <strong>fine white gravel<\/strong> beach<strong><\/strong>. The composition of the sand is limestone, like the large cliffs surrounding the beach.\u00a0The majestic <strong>cliff<\/strong>, alternating with escarpments of debris from the slopes, protects the beach and makes it<strong> difficult to access across land<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Encircling the cliff we find the forest of the same name, <strong>Biriala forest<\/strong>. Here we can find <strong>holm oak<\/strong>, sometimes centuries old, <strong>juniper<\/strong> and other typical essences of <strong>Mediterranean shrub<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>At sea, opposite the beach we can see a <strong>rocky arch<\/strong>, just above the surface of the water, which protects the coast from the <strong>waves caused by the Scirocco wind<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The water is extremely clean, typical of this part of the island, and it has brought fame to some of the nearby locations like the \u201c<strong>Calettino delle Foche<\/strong>\u201d, \u201c<strong>S\u2019Achilleddu<\/strong>\u201d and the \u201c<strong>Piscine di Venere<\/strong>\u201d. This feature allowed the <strong>Mediterranean monk seal<\/strong> to take shelter in these waters, with guaranteed sightings up until the 1960s.<\/p>\n<p>The beach can easily be reached by sea.
