{"id":29202,"date":"2023-07-06T11:42:11","date_gmt":"2023-07-06T09:42:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/idese.cultura.gov.it\/place\/cala-sisine\/"},"modified":"2023-07-07T12:59:33","modified_gmt":"2023-07-07T10:59:33","slug":"cala-sisine","status":"publish","type":"place","link":"https:\/\/idese.cultura.gov.it\/en\/place\/cala-sisine\/","title":{"rendered":"Cala Sisine"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Cala Sisine<\/strong> is one of the coves overlooking the <strong>Golfo di Orosei<\/strong>, in the district of <strong>Baunei<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The sandy shore consists of <strong>shingle<\/strong> and <strong>small<\/strong>, <strong>white<\/strong>, <strong>round<\/strong> pebbles and extends for about <strong>200 m<\/strong>, immersing into the crystal-clear sea water.<br \/>\nThe composition of the beach\u2019s sediments is the same as that of the high <strong>limestone cliffs<\/strong> surrounding this cove, like for example <strong>Serra Ovra<\/strong> (500 m a.s.l.).<\/p>\n<p>The deep inlet where the beach sits is the natural outlet for the <strong>Codula Sisine<\/strong>, a gorge of fluvial origin, hollowed by the <strong>Rio Codula Sisine<\/strong> of the same name. There is a small <strong>wetland<\/strong> in the backshore which originated from the waters of the rio during periods of low rainfall. The origins of the rio stem from the <strong>Golgo plateau<\/strong>, again in <strong>Supramonte di Baunei<\/strong>, <strong>an important nature reserve<\/strong> as well as being the starting point for a number of treks.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Codula<\/strong> has a mixed morphology, hollowed out by the <strong>torrential<\/strong> river, in the limestone mass of the mountains in the area.<br \/>\nAlong its pathway you can observe the typical essences of <strong>Mediterranean shrub<\/strong>, especially <strong>holm oaks<\/strong>, <strong>juniper<\/strong>, <strong>carob<\/strong>, <strong>mastic tree<\/strong>, <strong>phillyrea<\/strong> and in the areas with greater water resources, <strong>oleander<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The cove is easy to reach via sea while it is slightly more difficult over land, on foot, across different <strong><em>trekking<\/em> routes<\/strong> which are signposted. Different, important natural elements known as <strong>Baccu<\/strong> can be observed along these routes.\u00a0The <strong>Baccu<\/strong>, or \u201c<strong>Bacos<\/strong>\u201d, are <strong>deep gorges<\/strong> typically found in <strong>Supramonte di Baunei<\/strong>, which generally end in descents, stairways and coves in the sea which are often almost impassable. Along the route, it is not unusual to come across woods with plants which are centuries old and encounter karstic cavities, landslides and stone quarries.<\/p>\n<p>In this area, we can find <strong>Baccu Addas<\/strong>, <strong>Baccu Urutz\u00f2<\/strong>, <strong>Baccu Sa Ena<\/strong> and <strong>Baccu S&#8217;Orruargiu<\/strong>.<br \/>\nIn particular, <strong>Baccu Sa Ena<\/strong>, has a <strong>spring<\/strong> and a <strong>ravine<\/strong>, probably inhabited from as early as the <strong>nuragic times<\/strong>.<br \/>\nIt is also possible to visit the <strong>Arco di Baccu S&#8217;Orruargiu<\/strong> in the area, a majestic <strong>natural arch<\/strong> open on a limestone rock wall which is difficult to reach.<\/p>\n<p>The cove\u2019s original name was \u201c<strong>Portu \u2018e Sisine<\/strong>\u201d and was used as a landing area for shipments of coal or as shelter during longer navigations. To the north, a building built by coal merchants is proof of this.
