{"id":29187,"date":"2023-07-04T17:22:45","date_gmt":"2023-07-04T15:22:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/idese.cultura.gov.it\/place\/beach-and-wwf-oasis-in-scivu\/"},"modified":"2023-07-11T17:03:34","modified_gmt":"2023-07-11T15:03:34","slug":"beach-and-wwf-oasis-in-scivu","status":"publish","type":"place","link":"https:\/\/idese.cultura.gov.it\/en\/place\/beach-and-wwf-oasis-in-scivu\/","title":{"rendered":"Beach and WWF Oasis in Scivu"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <strong>Scivu beach<\/strong> sits on the <strong>west coast<\/strong> of <strong>Sardinia<\/strong>, in the municipality of <strong>Arbus<\/strong>, along the coastline known as <strong>Costa Verde<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The beach has a <strong>golden sand,<\/strong> extending for about <strong>3 kilometres<\/strong>, surrounded by a highly esteemed <strong>natural habitat<\/strong>. The <strong>sea<\/strong> water appears to be particularly <strong>transparent<\/strong>, with colours ranging from <strong>emerald green<\/strong> to <strong>light blue<\/strong>.<br \/>\nThe <strong>seabed<\/strong>, close to the water\u2019s edge is mainly <strong>sandy<\/strong>. Further out, we find channels and rocks which, in places show signs of the <strong>ancient coastal lines<\/strong>, which are now fossils.<br \/>\nThe beach is exposed in full to the <strong>winds and rough seas caused by the Mistral wind<\/strong>, and great care should be <strong>taken when swimming<\/strong> when the wind is blowing.<\/p>\n<p>A <strong>dune system<\/strong> extends along the coastline populated by <strong>juniper<\/strong>, <strong>mastic-trees<\/strong>, <strong>broom<\/strong> and <strong>sea daffodils<\/strong>. Tall <strong>reddish sandstone rocks<\/strong> emerge at either end, covered in <strong>Mediterranean shrub<\/strong>. The <strong>sea beds<\/strong> are rich in <strong>sand steenbras<\/strong>, <strong>gilthead bream<\/strong>, <strong>sea bass<\/strong>, <strong>croakers<\/strong> and <strong>greater amberjack<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The coastline starts from the <strong>WWF Oasis in Scivu<\/strong>, which in turn is part of the <strong>Geomineral Park of Sardinia<\/strong> and the <strong>Sites of Community Importance <\/strong>or (SCI) \u201c<strong>Capo Pecora<\/strong>\u201d (ITB040030) and \u201c<strong>From Piscinas to Riu Scivu<\/strong>\u201d (ITB040071).<br \/>\nWith more than <strong>600 hectares of protected land<\/strong>, it is one of the most important areas of nature and landscape in Sardinia.<br \/>\nThe <strong>fauna<\/strong> living in this area includes the <strong>Sardinian deer<\/strong>, which roams freely. The Oasis also includes a <strong>cork forest<\/strong> covering around 150 hectares, hovered over by <strong>Peregrine falcons<\/strong>, <strong>kestrels<\/strong>\u00a0and <strong>buzzards<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>All these unusual aspects make Scivu one of the most attractive stretches of the Costa Verde.<\/p>\n<p>While being isolated from residential areas, the beach has a <strong>car park<\/strong>, an <strong>area equipped to cater for camper vans<\/strong>, <strong>restaurant<\/strong> and <strong>bathing facilities<\/strong>.
