{"id":29173,"date":"2023-07-04T17:09:55","date_gmt":"2023-07-04T15:09:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/idese.cultura.gov.it\/place\/monte-prama-archaeological-site\/"},"modified":"2023-07-05T13:07:10","modified_gmt":"2023-07-05T11:07:10","slug":"monte-prama-archaeological-site","status":"publish","type":"place","link":"https:\/\/idese.cultura.gov.it\/en\/place\/monte-prama-archaeological-site\/","title":{"rendered":"Mont&#8217;e Prama archaeological site"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The archaeological site of Mont&#8217;e Prama sits in the <strong>Sinis peninsula<\/strong>, between the quartz pebble beaches of <strong>Mari Ermi and Is Arutas<\/strong> and the pond where the pink flamingos nest.<\/p>\n<p>The Mont&#8217;e Prama site was discovered by chance in<strong> 1974<\/strong> during farming work. It brought to light thousands of <strong>fragments of ancient sculptures in limestone<\/strong>, left for a long time and difficult to place.<br \/>\nUnderneath what appeared to be a pile of fragments emerged <strong>numerous individual well-tombs<\/strong>. They were arranged into <strong>two even rows<\/strong> cordoned off by a kind of <strong>fence<\/strong>. Inside, the <strong>skeletons<\/strong> were set out<strong> in a huddled position<\/strong>. Thanks to the few elements found among the grave goods, it was possible to date the compound to <strong>X-VIII centuries B.C<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>An <strong>exceptional effort to restore and piece together<\/strong> the fragments began in 2005 giving life to what is now known as the <strong>statues of Mont&#8217;e Prama<\/strong>. The huge sculptures represent <strong>boxers<\/strong>,<strong> archers<\/strong>,<strong> warriors <\/strong>with sword and shield, <strong>betyls <\/strong>and <strong> nuraghi representations.<\/strong> They can be admired at the<strong> City Museum in Cabras and the National Archaeological Museum in Cagliari<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The archaeological digs started again in recent years with the expansion of the area in question.
