{"id":25624,"date":"2023-06-20T17:47:02","date_gmt":"2023-06-20T15:47:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/idese.cultura.gov.it\/place\/cala-domestica\/"},"modified":"2023-06-21T09:52:20","modified_gmt":"2023-06-21T07:52:20","slug":"cala-domestica","status":"publish","type":"place","link":"https:\/\/idese.cultura.gov.it\/en\/place\/cala-domestica\/","title":{"rendered":"Cala Domestica"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Cala Domestica<\/strong> is located in the municipal area of <strong>Buggerru<\/strong>, on the border with the <strong>Iglesias<\/strong> area, on the western coast of <strong>Sardinia<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>This beach has unique features and can be found at the end of a deep inlet between the <strong>rocky limestone promontories<\/strong>. It is the outlet for the <strong>rio Gutturu Cardaxius<\/strong>, with a <strong>coastal morphology<\/strong> that takes the name of <em><strong>Ria<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Beach<\/strong>\u00a0which extends for around <strong>100 metres<\/strong>, surrounded by <strong>high cliffs<\/strong> covered with <strong>Mediterranean shrub<\/strong>. Behind this is a <strong>system of stable dunes<\/strong>, extending for over <strong>300 metres<\/strong>, crossed by <strong>wide wooden gangways <\/strong> to avoid crushing it.<\/p>\n<p>The sand is a greyish <strong><\/strong><strong><\/strong> &#8211;<strong>cream colour<\/strong>, with a <strong>mid-fine grain<\/strong> <strong>gravel<\/strong>. The clear colours of the sandy shore combine with the <strong>crystal-clear blue of the sea<\/strong>, with its <strong>shallow sandy seabeds<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>To the right of the main beach, across a tunnel dug by miners, you can access a <strong>second small and secluded beach<\/strong>, known as<strong> Sa Caletta<\/strong>. The sandy shore extends for more than 20 metres and is the outlet for the <strong>rio Canale di Domestica<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cala Domestica<\/strong>, as well as being an important <strong>nature site<\/strong>, has a past linked to <strong>mining<\/strong> in Sardinia. Indeed, up until 1940, the cove acted as a mooring for loading minerals, extracted from nearby <strong>mines<\/strong>. The remains of the structures linked to this activity are still visible in the area.<br \/>\nFurthermore, on top of the promontory to the south of the cove is a <strong>Spanish tower from the XVIII century<\/strong>, about 10 metres high. The tower was also used during the <strong>Second World War<\/strong> as a lookout point.<\/p>\n<p>Near the beach, before heading on foot along the walkways, there is a large <strong>car park<\/strong>, also set up for<strong> camper parking<\/strong>.
