{"id":25618,"date":"2023-06-20T17:47:01","date_gmt":"2023-06-20T15:47:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/idese.cultura.gov.it\/place\/church-of-santa-maria-di-sibiola\/"},"modified":"2023-06-21T13:51:44","modified_gmt":"2023-06-21T11:51:44","slug":"church-of-santa-maria-di-sibiola","status":"publish","type":"place","link":"https:\/\/idese.cultura.gov.it\/en\/place\/church-of-santa-maria-di-sibiola\/","title":{"rendered":"Church of Santa Maria di Sibiola"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <strong>church of Santa Maria di Sibiola<\/strong> can be found in the countryside of <strong>Serdiana<\/strong>, where the <strong>village of Sibiola<\/strong> once stood.<\/p>\n<p>In <strong>1338,<\/strong> it is recorded as being a property owned by the <strong>Benedictine monks at the San Vittore Abbey in Marseilles<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Based on formal data, we can attribute it <strong>to the first quarter of the XII century<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The structure displays a <strong>layout with two naves<\/strong>, each with its own <strong>entrance<\/strong> and with <strong>a semi-circular<\/strong> end with oculus.<\/p>\n<p>Both naves are barrel-vaulted articulated with soffits and are divided by arches on pillar bases with capitals.<\/p>\n<p>While the <strong>internal wall <\/strong>has been produced with sandstone cantons, <strong>the outside one<\/strong> has been produced with small square cantons. There are also spaces set aside for <strong>ceramic basins<\/strong>, already in fragments when they were discovered.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>facade<\/strong> has a flat end and is cordoned off by corner pilasters. Each nave has a corresponding <strong>curved portal<\/strong> and a <strong>light<\/strong>: to the south we have a double-arched window, in the other a monophora.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, the facade, side and apse are decorated with <strong>suspended arches<\/strong> on carved shelves.<\/p>\n<p>The church also had a <strong>double bell gable,<\/strong> of which only the basal ashlars have survived.
