{"id":25566,"date":"2023-06-15T17:21:08","date_gmt":"2023-06-15T15:21:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/idese.cultura.gov.it\/place\/archaeological-site-at-forum-traiani\/"},"modified":"2023-06-21T09:52:48","modified_gmt":"2023-06-21T07:52:48","slug":"archaeological-site-at-forum-traiani","status":"publish","type":"place","link":"https:\/\/idese.cultura.gov.it\/en\/place\/archaeological-site-at-forum-traiani\/","title":{"rendered":"Archaeological site at Forum Traiani"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The monumental Fordongianus thermal baths (<strong>Aquae Ypsitanae<\/strong> Roman baths) are one of the most magnificent examples of the Roman era in Sardinia.<\/p>\n<p>The baths were built by the Romans<strong> between the I and III centuries A.D<\/strong>. and have <strong>two working plants<\/strong>, thanks to the presence of two springs which provide hot and cold water.<\/p>\n<p>The fine hot-water spring, with its therapeutic properties and a temperature of almost 56\u00b0C, was used in the original complex (1st century A.D.), after being mixed with the cold water.<\/p>\n<p>The building was constructed using vast <strong>blocks of green trachyte<\/strong> and, to this day, still houses <strong>a pool<\/strong> and a seven-light colonnade covered with <strong>barrel vaults<\/strong>. Other preserved areas worth mentioning include the chamber on the eastern side of the <em>natatio<\/em>, referred to as the <strong>Ninfeo. This area <\/strong>was where the goddesses of water and springs were worshipped. About a dozen <strong>votive altars<\/strong> are positioned in special niches. One of these was discovered in perfect condition and is proof that this building was frequented by Governors and the elite of that time.<\/p>\n<p>The system built upstream between the II and III centuries A.D. was a typical ring-shaped itinerary for ablutions-treatment purposes. A <strong>frigidarium<\/strong>, two <strong>tepidariums<\/strong>, two <strong>calidariums<\/strong> and the corresponding furnaces can also be spotted. An<strong> open-air piazza<\/strong> extends out just behind these and is overlooked by additional buildings.
